@00:24it's only particular =) i think there are 4 particle layers in this one. if you watch it in hi-quality than you can see two growing lines.. i could've used trapcode stroke for that but i went with particular with those too.

and yeah... i hate those rip offs too

Got inspired by a few things and i made this particle and sound design experiments this week. I couldn't decide if it's 3d or 2d animation, because even tho the logo was rendered from 3ds max, the particle effects were done in After Effects... even tho in 3d space, but still in a 2d compositing program...
Sound design made in Reason and Sony Vegas.

i dunno why but it has this weird bug that between each animation there is a still pic instead of pitch black :S

Just the same like my guess~3Dmax and AE,you could try particle plugins in 3Dmax~I'm learning AfterBurn now
